About the Knitting Pattern

The Festive Penguin Hat is a cheerful winter accessory for children aged 1 to 11 years old. Knitted in double knitting (DK) wool, it features a penguin wearing a Santa hat and is finished with a large pompom. The pattern is written in English and supplied as a digital download PDF.

Design Details

The hat is knitted flat on straight needles and the penguin motif is worked using the intarsia method by following a chart. The penguin’s Santa‑hat pompom is knitted separately and sewn on. Once the motif is complete, the back seam is sewn and a pompom is added to the top.

Instructions include six sizes:

·       1–2 years

·       2–3 years

·       4–5 years

·       6–7 years

·       8–9 years

·       10–11 years

Skills Level

Intermediate. Written instructions are provided, and you will also need experience working from a chart for the motif.

Yarn

Designed for double knitting wool. (Overseas equivalents: USA Light Worsted / Australian 8 ply.) Hat shown in Stylecraft Special DK shades: Cornish Blue (1841), White (1001), Black (1002), Lipstick (1246), and Mustard (1823).

Needles

·       3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles.
