Knit our Christmas Penguin Hats designed for little ones aged 0–3 years, featuring a festive penguin motif on the front wearing a red Santa hat with a pompom. Knitted in double knitting (DK) wool, you can choose from a Bobble Hat with a pompom or a Teabag Hat with tassels at each corner.
Each hat is worked flat and the penguin motif is created by following a chart.
Design: Pattern 1 is for a bobble hat with a penguin motif and pompom. Pattern 2 is for a teabag hat with a penguin motif and tassels. Both hats are knitted flat on straight needles and a chart is provided to complete the motif.
Sizes: 4 sizes included to fit child: 0-6, 6-12, 12-24 and 24-36 months old.
Yarn: Double knitting wool required (an alternative yarn for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply). You will need 1 x 50 gram ball of Blue and White yarn with oddments of Black, Red and Orange.
Skill: Intermediate. Written instructions provided, but experience needed to work from a chart for the motif.
Tension: 22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
Needles: Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.
1 crochet hook (optional) to help pull yarn through when making pompoms
