A pair of festive dresses for children aged 6 months to 7 years, designed to bring Christmas cheer to little wardrobes. Worked in double knitting (DK) wool, the Santa Snowfall Dresses come in two styles: a short‑sleeved version and a sleeveless option, both perfect for layering through the winter season.
Each dress features a button‑back opening for easy dressing, along with comfortable edges that hold their shape beautifully. The skirts are decorated with a joyful band of snowflakes above and below a row of jolly Santa Claus faces repeated on both the front and back for a fully festive finish.
Design: The front, back and sleeves are knitted separately on straight needles and sewn together. Stitches are picked up to complete the neckline and for the opening at the back. For the Sleeveless Dress, stitches are picked up to finish off the armhole edges.
Santa motifs are worked using the intarsia method using separate small balls of yarn for each section of colour. The snowflake pattern is worked using the Fair Isle method stranding yarn on the wrong side of the work.
Sizes: Includes 5 sizes to fit child: 6-12 mths, 1-2 yrs, 2-3 yrs, 4-5 yrs and 6-7 years old Yarn: The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative yarn for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply).
The picture shows the outfits knitted using:
Rico Baby Classic DK in shades Red (009), White (001), Green (062), Powder (038), Grey (044).
Skill: Intermediate. Written instructions provided. Experience needed to work from a chart for the motif.
Tension: 22 sts and 28 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
Needles: Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.
