Create our Christmas Penguin Jumper suitable for children aged from birth to 3 years old. Knitted using double knitting (DK) wool, the sweater features a penguin wearing a festive hat with pompom to the front and is finished with ribbed edges at the neckline, cuffs and hem for a classic, stretchy fit that keeps its shape beautifully. A three‑button opening at one shoulder makes dressing easy for little ones.
Design: The front, back and sleeves are worked separately from the bottom-up. Stitches are picked up to complete the neckline. One shoulder has a 3-button fastening to make it easier to lift the jumper over the child’s head. A chart is provided to complete the penguin motif.
Sizes: The pattern includes 4 sizes: 0-6m, 6-12m, 1-2yrs and 2-3 years old.
Yarn: The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative yarn for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply)
The jumper in the picture has been knitted for size 6-12 months and uses:
Sirdar Snuggly shades: Blue (0321), White (0251), Black (0312) and Flamenco (0242), Stylecraft Special DK shade: Mustard (1823).
Skill: Intermediate. Written instructions provided, but experience needed to work from a chart for the motif.
Tension: 22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
Needles: Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.
