Create a touch of Christmas magic with our Santa and Rudolph Peekaboo Cardigans suitable to fit children from 6 months to 7 years old. Each cardigan features a cute Santa Claus and Rudolph motif, with both characters peeking cheekily over the rib edging. Knitted in double knitting (DK) wool, you can opt for a classic Round Neck or a smart V-Neck cardigan.
Design: The cardigans have a motif of Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on each side. The front, back and sleeves are knitted separately and sewn together. The ribbed buttonhole bands are added by picking up stitches and you may prefer to use a 3.25mm circular needle to help pick up and knit the stitches for the V-Neck Cardigan.
Sizes: The pattern gives instructions for 5 different sizes: 6-12 months, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, 4-5 years and 6-7 years old. To fit chest: 46, 51, 56, 61 and 66 cms or 18, 20, 22, 24 and 26 inches.
Yarn: The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply).
The picture shows the cardigans knitted using Rico Baby Classic DK in shades Green (Ivy 062), Red (009), White (001), Beige (Greige 017), Brown (Clay 037), Black (099) and Light Pink (Powder 038).
Skill: Intermediate. Written instructions provided, but experience needed to work from a chart for the motif.
Tension: 22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
Needles: Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.
(optional) small crochet hook to help pull yarn through when making pompoms.
(optional) 3.25mm circular needle to help pick up and knit the stitches for the V-Neck Cardigan.
