Our Penguins in the Snow Jumper features two penguins on both the front and the back, each wrapped up warmly in their colourful scarves and topped with playful pompom hats. Standing together in a snowy landscape, the penguins create a delightful winter scene that little ones love to wear throughout the festive season.
Designed to suit children aged 2 to 7 years old and knitted in double knitting wool, the sweater is worked in stocking stitch, with the penguin motifs created using intarsia charts. A twisted rib finish at the neckline, cuffs, and hem gives the garment a crisp, modern edge while ensuring a stretchy, comfortable fit.
Design: The jumper has a motif of 2 penguins on the front and back. The motif is knitted using the intarsia method following a chart. The front, back and sleeves are knitted separately and sewn together. Stitches are picked up for the neckband. A pompom completes the penguins’ hats.
Sizes: The pattern gives instructions for 3 different sizes: 2-3, 4-5 and 6-7 years old. To fit chest: 22, 24 and 26 inches or 56, 61 and 66 cms.
Yarn: The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply).
The picture shows the jumper knitted for size 6-7 years using Stylecraft Special DK in shades: Turquoise (1068), White (1001), Red (Lipstick 1246), Black (1002), Yellow (Sunshine 1114) and Green (1826).
Skill: Intermediate. Written instructions provided, but there is also a chart to follow for the penguin motif.
Tension: 22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
Needles: Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.
