Create our Christmas Penguin Jacket suitable for children from 6 months to 2 years old and features cheerful penguins on both thefront and back, each one wearing a festive pompom hat. The jacket is worked in double knitting wool for warmth, comfort, and easy care and is completed with a cabled yoke and ribbed edges at the neckline, cuffs, and hem give a neat, stretchy finish that helps the garment keep its shape.
Design: The Jacket has cute penguin motifs to the back and front. The back, left side, right side and sleeves are knitted separately up to yoke and then slipped onto same needle to complete the yoke which has an attractive cable design. The sleeves and side seams are sewn together. Stitches are picked up for the front button/buttonhole bands. A chart is provided to follow for the motifs.
Sizes: The pattern includes 2 sizes to fit a child: 6-12 months and 18-24 months old. Chest size: 18 and 20 inches or 46 and 51 cms.
Yarn: The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative yarn for overseas knitters would be USA Light Worsted or Australian 8 ply). Jacket shown in main picture is for size 18-24m and knitted using: Patons Smoothie DK shades: Lime (1010) and White (1020)
Stylecraft DK shade: Black (1002), Mustard (1823) and Lipstick (1246).
Tension: 22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
Needles: Sizes 3.25 mm and 4 mm (USA 3 and 6) needles are required.
Other requirements:
1 cable needle (size 4 mm needle)
Stitch holders
3 buttons
Small crochet hook (optional) to help pull yarn through when making pompoms
