About the Knitting Pattern

The Little Christmas Penguins Jacket is a festive children’s cardigan designed to fit ages 6–12 months and 18–24 months, featuring cheerful penguins on both the front and back, each wearing a pompom Santa hat. The jacket is knitted in double knitting (DK) wool and finished with a textured cabled yoke and ribbed edges to help the garment keep its shape. The pattern is written in English and supplied as a digital download PDF.

Design Details

The back, left front, right front, and sleeves are each worked flat up to the yoke. All pieces are then joined onto a single needle to complete the decorative cable design across the yoke. After the yoke is finished, the sleeve and side seams are sewn together. Stitches are picked up along the front edges to knit the button and buttonhole bands. A chart is provided for the penguin motif.

• 18–24 months

Skills Level

Intermediate. The pattern includes written instructions, but you will also need experience of:

• Working from a chart for the motif

• Using a cable needle to complete the yoke design

Yarn

Designed for double knitting (DK) wool. Overseas equivalents: USA Light Worsted or Australian 8 ply.

• Patons Smoothie DK: Lime (1010), White (1020)

• Stylecraft DK: Black (1002), Mustard (1823), Lipstick (1246)

Needles

• 3.25 mm (USA 3) and 4 mm (USA 6) straight needles

Other Requirements

• 1 cable needle (4 mm)

• Stitch holders

• 3 buttons

• Small crochet hook (optional) for helping pull yarn through when making pompoms
