Diamond Moss Pattern Dress to fit a child from birth to 7 years old

Short Sleeved and Sleeveless Dress with a button opening at the back

Design:

The dress has a diamond moss stitch pattern with moss stitch edgings. The front and back are knitted separately and sewn together.  The moss stitch neckband is added by picking up stitches.  Stitches are picked up for the button band at the back.  You then have the option of either short sleeves which are knitted separately and sewn onto the dress or picking up stitches for a moss stitch armhole edge band. 

Sizes:

6 sizes included to fit child: 0-6 mths, 6-12 mths, 1-2 yrs, 2-3 yrs, 4-5 yrs and 6-7 years old.

Yarn:

The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative yarn for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply).

The picture shows the 0-6 months size knitted using Sirdar Snuggly DK in shade Pear (529) for Short Sleeved Dress and Precious (187) for the Sleeveless Dress.

Skill:

Intermediate.  Written instructions provided.

Tension:

22 sts and 28 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension. 

Needles:

Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.

Other requirements:

3 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4) buttons for each dress

Stitch holders

Stitch markers
