About the Knitting Pattern

The Piper the Penguin Cardigan is designed to fit children aged 6 months to 7 years. Knitted in double knitting (DK) wool, this round neck cardigan features two cheerful penguin motifs on the front, each with bright orange feet and beaks. The pattern is written in English and supplied as a digital download PDF.

Design Details

The cardigan is worked in separate pieces: front, back and sleeves are knitted individually and sewn together. The neckband and ribbed buttonhole bands are created by picking up stitches.

Sizes

Instructions included for five sizes:

·       6–12 months

·       1–2 years

·       2–3 years

·       4–5 years

·       6–7 years

Skills Level

Intermediate. Written instructions are provided, but experience is needed to work from a chart for the motif.

Yarn

Knitted using double knitting wool. Overseas equivalents: USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply.

Cardigan shown in the main image uses:

  • Sirdar Snuggly DK – Denim Blue (326) and White (251)

  • Stylecraft Special DK – Black (1002) and Spice (1711)

Needles

Straight needles in sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6).

Other Requirements

  • 6 (6, 6, 6, 7) × 15 mm buttons

  • Stitch markers
