Piper the Penguin Cardigan to fit a child from 6 months to 7 years old

Round neck cardigan

Intarsia penguin motif to the front

Knitted using double knitting wool

Pattern is written in English

Knitting pattern is sent as an instant digital download PDF

Design:

The cardigan has a motif of a penguin on each side.  The front, back and sleeves are knitted separately and sewn together.  The neckband and ribbed buttonhole bands are added by picking up stitches.

Sizes:

The pattern gives instructions for 5 different sizes: 6-12 months, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, 4-5 years and 6-7 years old.  To fit chest: 46, 51, 56, 61 and 66 cms or 18, 20, 22, 24 and 26 inches.

Yarn:

The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply).

Cardigan shown in main picture is for size 2-3 years and knitted using:

Sirdar Snuggly DK in shades Denim Blue (326) and White (251) and

Stylecraft Special DK in shades Black (1002) and Spice (1711).

Skill:

Intermediate.  Written instructions provided, but experience needed to work from a chart for the motif.

Tension:

22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension. 

Needles:

Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.

Other requirements:

6 (6, 6, 6, 7) size 15mm buttons
