The Diamond Hearts Dresses are created using double knitting (DK) wool and suitable for a child from birth to 5 years old. They feature a heart‑and‑diamonds pattern to the skirt and moss stitch edges. This pattern includes two styles to suit every season: a sleeveless version and a short‑sleeved version.
Design: The front and back are knitted separately and sewn together. The moss stitch neckband is added by picking up stitches. You then have the option of either short sleeves which are knitted separately and sewn onto the dress or picking up stitches for a moss stitch armhole edge band.
Sizes: Includes 5 different sizes: 0-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-2 years, 2-3 years and 4-5 years old. To fit chest: 41, 46, 51, 56 and 61cms or 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 inches.
Yarn: The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply).
The picture shows the dresses knitted using Sirdar Snuggly DK in shade Precious (0187).
Skill: Intermediate. Written instructions provided, but there is also a chart to follow (if preferred) for the diamond hearts pattern.
Tension: 22 sts and 28 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
Needles: Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.
