Knit our Winter Penguin Jumper which features a cute penguin dressed up warmly in a bright red scarf and Christmas hat. Designed for children aged 0-3 years old and knitted in double knitting (DK) wool, the sweater has ribbed edges at the neckline, cuffs, and hem for a stretchy finish and a three‑button opening on one shoulder which makes dressing simple, especially for babies and toddlers.
Design: The front, back and sleeves are worked separately from the bottom-up. Stitches are picked up to complete the neckline and one shoulder has a 3-button fastening to make it easier to lift the jumper over the child’s head. A chart is provided to complete the motif using the Intarsia method.
Sizes: The pattern includes sizes: 0-3m, 3-6m, 6-9m, 9-12m, 1-2yrs and 2-3 years old. To fit chest: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 22 inches or 31, 36, 41, 46, 51 and 56 cms.
Yarn: The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative yarn for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply).
The picture shows the jumper knitted using Rico Baby Classic DK shades: Turquoise (025) and White (001) and Stylecraft Special DK shades: Red (Lipstick 1246), Black (1002) and Yellow (Sunshine 1114).
Skill: Intermediate. Written instructions provided, but you will need experience of following a chart for the motif.
Tension: 22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
Needles: Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.
